Real Brides: Rebecca Williamson

As part of our Real Brides series, friend of The Face Planner, Rebecca Williamson, gave us a look into her routines and rituals on the lead up to her wedding day. Read on to find out which products and treatments guaranteed her photo-ready glowing complexion, and which ones became her every day staples.

When did you start preparing for your wedding day in terms of wellness and skincare?

While I’ve always been pretty on top of looking after my skin, it was in January - after a festive period of eating & drinking - that I took stock of how my skin looked & felt ahead of my April wedding. I was breaking out on my cheeks & suffering from dry patches - I had been throwing multiple products at my face to fix it, which seemed to be making it worse. On Jan 1st, I stripped my routine back to The Face Planner cleanser, hydrating serum & moisturiser - even after a week I saw a difference, my skin was clearer, brighter & after a couple of weeks I began to get my glow back.

What was the process of finding the perfect skincare routine like? Was there a lot of research and product testing involved?

I was following many beauty influencers, all telling me to add this, that & the next thing to target various skin issues - I got sucked in & started incorporating too many products, particularly with AHAs/BHAs which on reflection I think were too harsh on my skin. I was then advised to go back to basics - which was a scary thought but I immediately saw the benefits of doing so. The 3 Face Planner products provided all the beneficial ingredients I needed to repair my skin & have become my go-tos ever since.

Which products did you use in the lead up to your wedding? And how often?

In the 3 months before my wedding I became so consistent with the 3 core Face Planner heroes - the cleanser I used every night as part of a double cleanse - I love the fresh scent & how my skin feels after using it, nourished & not at all stripped down like other harsher cleansers. I doubled up on the super hydrator using morning & night - my skin really drinks this product up & feels so fresh from it. I also used the moisturiser twice daily, my make up sits perfectly on top all day & after a day of sweating, pollution, dehydration, it’s a great way to protect my barrier while I sleep. I also added in the eye cream the month before my wedding which I could feel lightening & brightening immediately!

How did you incorporate the Super Hydrator serum?

I really can’t live without my super hydrator! It became my must have in my skincare routine in the lead up to my wedding & I’ve maintained my obsession into this summer too. I continue to reach for it day & night while I’ve been enjoying myself too much at festivals, weddings, hens etc - it’s been a lifesaver for salvaging any dryness or dullness from champagne fuelled late nights!

Were there any noteworthy results after using these products?

I felt like I got my glow back using TFP! Even in dark & gloomy February, my skin was brighter & my texture more even. I stopped suffering from break outs so often & the dry patches became few & far between.

How else did you prepare in terms of wellness and lifestyle?

Alongside my skincare, I prioritised looking after my gut, introducing Symprove daily - combining beauty inside & out! I was consistent with my workouts, alternating between Barry’s Bootcamp & reformer Pilates at my favourite east London spot, Studio Anatomy. I had a little help from facialist Pandora Long too - who introduced me to micro needling - I can’t believe I waited for so long to discover it! I felt great on wedding day & it really shows in all the photos!

Are there any treatments/classes/appointments that you would recommend as good investments for soon-to-be brides?

Before dabbling in any treatments, I’d recommend getting a consistent skincare routine nailed as your base layer - this allows you to identify areas that are flaring up with dryness/redness/breakouts to then define the kind of treatments you might need. In hindsight, I wish I had started my skin prep 6 months out rather than 3 - more than anything because I found it all so enjoyable! I also became consistent with infrared saunas which I felt really boosted my circulation, helped reduce any swelling & sweated out any toxins.
